Description

The IAHHC Hybrid Home Health Aide Train-the-Trainer Program is a one-day course providing *qualified trainers with the newly updated online curriculum and access to virtual skills simulations, lesson plans, handouts, competency assessments, and guidelines to teach a person how to become a home health aide.  This course will also include information on adult learning, how to debrief after the online practical skills simulations, and how to set up a practice lab for the required practice lab component of training. 

This course is open to IAHHC members only.  The online home health aide training curriculum is provided through Rochester Community Technical College (RCTC) and will provide the knowledge-based training required by state and federal requirements.  The virtual practice skills will be provided by CNA Simulations and have been adapted to be more applicable to the home care environment. 

*A qualified trainer is a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years’ experience, one of which must be in home health.

  • Ethical & legal principles including respect for the client’s privacy and property

  • Basic client needs
  • Working with different populations
  • Infection control
  • Maintenance of a clean and safe client environment
  • Observation, reporting and documenting
  • Unique needs of geriatric clients
  • Personal care, hygiene and grooming
  • Safe client transfers and ambulation
  • Common diseases
  • Care of dying client and their families
  • Pressure ulcer prevention
  • Assisting with client rehabilitation activities
  • Planning, purchasing and serving food
  • Body mechanic basics
  • Recognizing and responding to emergencies
  • Employee safety -Range of motion
  • Taking and recording vital signs
  • Special procedures

  • Handwashing with soap and water
  • Handwashing with hand sanitizer

  • Communicating with a client with dementia
